I like a story that does something new with old themes, and goes somewhere you don’t expect it to go. I also love a good werewolf story, and am always looking for new presentations--there are so many what-ifs? an author could explore but it seems like most just go over the same old ground. Which is why I loved Fortunes Change. Set in the real-world with its daily-life problems, we want to see the main character Ellie marry her sweetheart because that’s what she wants--but as he slowly reveals his real character, we hope Ellie will see him for what he is before it’s too late. Plus her heart is with the wild horses (and what girl’s isn’t?), and how could she possibly leave when they are being rounded up and killed? The human heart gets tugged in so many directions, I kept turning the pages wondering how these problems would be resolved. Oh, and the end was satisfying. I’ve got my fingers crossed there will be follow up books. :D I’d really like to know what happens next.

An incredibly interesting story with some good twists to keep you guessing, but not overdone on drama. I enjoyed this book very much. This writer is a natural and apt storyteller. Her voice is pleasant (reminds me of Diana Gabaldon’s—you know, the Outlander author). Her setting is rich in local and historical detail without overwhelming the reader with trivialities. And there are several memorable characters I loved spending time with. I can’t wait for the next in the series!
Horses, Cowboys, Female Heroine and a Werewolf! Awesome read, page turner. Interesting setting of around the mid 1930's, Oregon, when things are changing. Lifestyles, introduction of electricity and cars. Ranches are in trouble of continuing in the traditional sense. Ellie wants out, move to the city, or does she? Or can she? A new take on the hero was my favorite part along with the barrel racing action. Anna Bow keeps the reader interested and wanting more. Hopefully there's another book on the way. The best thing is it's fine for young readers as well as adults.
This was one of those 'can't put down, stay up too late at night to see what happens next' books. I loved the story line and the characters. For me an added plus was learning something that I didn't know before, while enjoying a good read. The author had many interesting period and ranching details. Not having read the reviews prior to getting the book, I totally did not pick up on the werewolf until about 2/3 into it. I can't wait to read the sequel!! (I'm assuming there will be a sequel??) Even though I'm not giving it 5 stars - Gone With the Wind and Abundance are probably my only 5 star books - this book is definitely on my "favorites" shelf.
