Elizabeth is devastated when Lamanites attack Zarahemla and her betrothed is killed in battle. But before Elizabeth and Joshua can come to an understanding of what their friendship has become, a new danger threatens their people. This time from within the walls of Zarahemla itself, causing even more troubles for Elizabeth and Joshua and those they hold dear, threatening to destroy everything that matters to them.

The first book that started my blog was called "The Birthright" By Loralee Evans. To this day it is still one of my all time favorite books. The Shores of Bountiful Is a great addition to that first book. You have Elizabeth and Joshua this time and get some mentions of Mariam and Jacob from the first book, but this book is all about Elizabeth and Joshua's relationship.I love reading stories that take place during the Nephite and Lamanite times. Even though a lot of the characters are fiction, the events that took place are real (like the start of the Gadianton robbers).
Following Elizabeth during her time of grief, following Joshua into the throws of battle, the emotions are high, but well worth it! This book is also about family and finding the love that lives with you, even through some of the darkest hours of life.
If you are in the mood for some history, romance, drama, a battle or two then pick up this book and Loralee's other books.

I love the title, the word Bountiful inspires hope for God's provision and abundance. This was a very compelling story, I quickly found myself engrossed in many of the characters the author created, especially Joshua and Elizabeth. I found the whole story to have an Old Testament feel to it which I very much liked. In some of the battles I cheered to see God's supernatural deliverance of His Children. There were also moments I was moved to tears by God reaching out to the lost and at some precious reunions and memorable meetings.
Several themes were explored through this story; Good vs Evil, Honor and Betrayal, Love and Hate, Faith and Unbelief. For some characters it was a story of Redemption, for others it was God's righteous judgments against the wicked that were handed down and His favor and protection for those who followed Him.
The many aspects of love were shown, phileo, eros and agape, Joshua in particular displayed all three passionately. Elizabeth was a strong godly woman who loved deeply and the perfect match for Joshua. I found The Shores of Bountiful to be dramatic and exciting to read and would highly recommend it.

The Shores of Bountiful, by Loralee Evans, is a love story set during a period of religious war. While the basis of the story comes from the Book of Mormon, the characters and their passions, their joys, and their sorrows transcend the history and are relatable to anyone, regardless of religious beliefs.
The book is well written and with its vivid, descriptive language, transports the reader immediately to a time of upheaval and great tension. Elizabeth is set to marry when her betrothed is killed in battle. Elizabeth’s childhood friend, Joshua, survives the battle and, after a time, Elizabeth starts to have feelings that go beyond friendship for Joshua. While both Elizabeth and Joshua are confused as to what the next steps in their relationship should be, the fighting raging around them leaves precious little time for personal matters as both are duty-bound to protect their beliefs, family, and community. The addition of a story line regarding the strong bond of family adds another dimension to the powerful saga.
I recommend this book to fans of clean, historical romance.
I love this authors work. I love this author. Her writing is captivating and beautifully written. I wish all her writings were in ebook form. As they are beautiful too. Great book well done. Always a clean read with no surprises. I'd highly recommend this book and all written by this author.
I really enjoyed this book. She really brings the stories from the Book of Mormon to life by weaving her fictional characters to the stories we grew up hearing.
I have loved The Birthright Series and The Shores of Bountiful was the perfect ending. Whether you are a Latter-Day Saint or not, this truly a story everyone can enjoy, especially if you love historical romance. Excellent writing from a talented author.
I read a small excerpt of this book, and I was so curious to see how it turned out I had to buy it and read it all. I found that Evans has a great way of putting emotional content into her book. She portrays fear, love, pride, and stubbornness in realistic and moving ways. I was cheering for the hero and heroine to get together and solve the tension between them. The only flaw I found is that some of her descriptions try too hard to be creative and the turn of phrase becomes a bit jarring. But this is a minor critique, and I read the book in a mere two days, I was so interested. Whatever the new editing did for the book, it clearly worked well. It's a clean historical/scripture-based novel, one that deserves a recommendation.
